"Enclave amongst wonderful chaos"

A Cool comfortable enclave in the heart of the wonderful chaos of Hanoi's old town and close to the Hoan Kiem Lake.

One of the Sunshine group. I contacted them on the strength of the recommendations for the other Sunshine Hotels.

They responded to my booking email within an hour, confirmed dates and price including airport pickup by return and were at Hanoi to meet out flight.

Arranging a pickup makes very good sense (as all the advice about Hanoi says). The journey in to town through early evening traffic and then negotiating the streets of the old town is amazing enough without worrying about finding the right hotel.

The rooms are a reasonable size, (typical of a centrally located hotel you would find in Europe). Fully equipped, including your own PC and internet connection (a first as far as I am concerned). Good bathroom, efficient shower and comfortable beds.

The mini-bar has useful stuff in it (no Toblerone) plenty of water, local beer and prices that don't make you feel like restocking it yourself.

The hotel serves a light breakfast included in the room rate. It does not have a restaurant but will get meals sent in, there is a menu with a full description of the food in English. There are many places to eat yards within of the front door. Do remember to take the hotel card with the little map on back the first time you venture out, though.

We were high up and the room was very peaceful, even with the window open.

The staff were charming and helpful. When I asked to borrow a conversion plug to recharge my camera I was treated to a motorbike across Hanoi to a stall selling everything imaginable including said connection. (they did offer to fetch the plug for me, I volunteered for the ride - I wasn't taken for one!)

We were in Hanoi for 3 days, we had our a pretty good idea of what we wanted to see and had our train booking to Hue already organised so we didn’t take advantage of the hotel's tour booking service.
